Solar Roaster In Haiti

Solar Roast Coffee LLC is partnering with nonprofit Singing Rooster.org in order to develop a commercially viable solar coffee roaster for use by Haitian coffee farmers.  Solar Roast Coffee has been building and developing solar coffee roasters since the summer of 2004, and this is a wonderful opportunity to put what we have learned to use where it is needed most.

For the Haiti project, we are developing a solar roaster with a 5 pound capacity.  It will be shippable as a kit including rods, mirrors, and a roaster head.  When assembled it will function very much like our Helios 2 solar roaster, which we used for our business from 2005 to 2006.  We have found this type of device to be robust and producible at low cost.  From experience, we know they are easy to use without much of any additional equipment, and are straightforward to repair.   

The roaster will enable farmers to roast some of the coffee they sell, greatly increasing the profit margins of their crop.  By accomplishing this project through the framework of existing business in Haiti, we will be encouraging sustainable economic growth.
